I don't need a Baby Q as I have many different must have cooking gadgets many of which I dont use. Including a Cobb Oven. However I want one I think. Can anybody give me enough reasons to order one. Can get one delivered from Qantas points for free (41000 points about)
Do they cook a really good car grilled steak. Do they cook a good roast pork with proper crackle. Do they cook sausages and burgers well. Should I get one??????? Can you cook a pizza in them.

We got ours free on Fly Buy points about 3 months ago. We needed a BBQ of some sort to cook on when we are free camping and do not have access to a caravan park BBQ.
I have found it great for BBQ's, it does baked potatoes beautifully and the roasts are almost (but not quite) as good as the traditional Weber BBQ - without the messy heat beads and the lighting of them 1 hour before cooking. Another thing that appealed to me was that it uses a lot less gas than a conventional BBQ because you cook with the lid closed. I also have found it quite easy to clean.
I bought myself a Weber duffle bag for Xmas to store it in under the table of the van while we are travelling.

Buy, buy, buy they are magic. We have two - a big one for home and the baby for the van. We would use the weber for 95% of our home cooking and 100% away in the van. Yes, you can cook anything and it comes out great. If you are doing a "normal" BBQ cook with the lid down it's much quicker. The cheapest meats come out even better retaining their flavour. Carry mine in the back of the disco. Wingo

Wingo,
Like grasshopper we got ours with FlyBuys points just before Christmas. 30500 I think. I don't see why you shouldn't get one vias Qantas points if they are available in their catalogue. now i have some cracking ideas on how to clean the area I was worried about I am quite excited in using it for the first time. Went to BBQ's Galore and bought a cover and a breakfast plate so all it has cost me so far is $70. Will add a roasting rack next.
Terry.

Cooks a great steak either on the open grille or on the cast iron Weber plate.
The plate which has two detachable wire handles is brilliant and does get really hot and thus a good steak.
I normally give steak about 3-4 mins either side on the cast iron plate and steak cooks perfectly.
The Weber also cooks great snags and is brilliant for Roast Lamb or Beef or Chicken.
With the cast iron plate you have the option of cooking on plate or on the open grille.
Last week we cooked a Bolar Blade Roast with Baked potatoes took about 2 hours much the same as an oven at home--delicious

You can cook pizza's on them as long as you don't do what I did. I started yakking and enjoying a drink and forgot to take the pizza out in time. Burnt the arse of the pizza and have stuff burnt into my new pizza ceramic plate.
I reckon you would like it though as it does a good job of most meals. Don't know about crackle on pork yet but will try it soon. Ours travels under the bed.

Ray

I've cooked scones in mine also. Really terrific.
We don't have an oven in the van so I bought the Baby Q so that I had a BBQ and an oven.

I have one and so does my Sister & Brother in law and we both reckon they are fantastic.
We both have tried pork and neither of us got crackling - but then again we are novices and still learning and maybe with a bit more experimenting etc we maybe able to achieve it.
I think may have to cook on a lot higher heat for the 1st 15 to 20 mins and then cut back - will try this next time we cook some pork.
Other than this they are really great and as has been mentioned will cook a steak in a way that will make your mouth water and "absolutley deeeelishus."

G'day Shazmacca,
If you are good at making things try making your own as I have (photo attached), selling them for $50, all you need is an empty 4.5kg gas bottle, it's a new version of a "Choofer" I made when someone sent me a picture of one they bought in South Africa, there they call it a "mini braii" mini BBQ.

not hard to make and takes about 3 hours.

We have one and use it all the time. Juliemac how did you cook scones in it? have only used ours for meat, may have to get more inventive. I did cook chicken kievs, by using a small stainless roasting dish. The lady at the retailer told me that you can use any stainless dish that fits.

To cook or "Bake" scones, muffins, cakes or bread, you need the roasting trivet accessory, with a double folded piece of alfoil underneath, this prevents scorching the bases of them.
Basically you can Bake anything that will fit in the cooking cavity.
The easiest way to learn is experiment at home. Hmm" I can smell the cheese and bacon muffins now!

It is coming out of the shed this afternoon for me to have some practice time, by the time we head off again I might have perfected something, will be happy with scones. Looking forward to being able to cook something different when away. This week will be a good one for practice, especially if the forecast is true, to hot for cooking inside.

We use ours at home instead of the oven and cook all the time with it. You may have to play around with the temperature by turning up or down, mine has the temp gauge so I can set it for most things.
Did some garlic bread last night came out wondeful !

Baby Q and The Q are both a magnificent product.
Bread,scones,roasts,you name it.
May I suggest a 2mm hole drilled in an area, not likely to interfere with roasting, and an after market thermometer,$20 .
Makes guessing obsolete.

Yes the thermometer is definately the way to go. As no guesswork.
R McDonald & co of Adelaide , the weber importer will sell you the original weber one for $19.95 plus postage.
I upgraded mine myself, I just went to a dealer and measured exactly where the thermometer was fitted and drilled mine the same.
