Hi,
I am new to this forum so hi everyone. My husband and I are about to leave for an around Australia trip.
My question is whether we should sell our weber baby Q (never used) as the caravan we bought has an inbuilt BBQ. The inbuilt BBQ does not look as good though. Anyone with a weber baby Q thinks it would be worth the extra weight considering we have one on the van?
Thanks for your advice.

Firstly welcome to the forum. You have chosen the right place to pose any questions about any aspect of caravanning. We have many "experts" on this forum. The question I would ask is do you want to cook roasts? Next question would be will your inbuilt bbq cook roasts? The Baby q is a fantastic little piece of equipment and so versatile. Think about all angles before making a decision.
Terry.

If you don't need it, why take it? It will only be an additional weight that will take up storage space and lacks the convenience of an in-built BBQ. It doesn't look good? - Nor do I, but I'm useful and convenient.

We have a baby q and would not leave home without it. Check out other posts on the q. I have a pizza stone for ours ( which we had cut to size). I can cook a roast, a slice, have cooked bread (in recipes section) as well as any thing you use a normal oven for. Also it is moveable, so you can decide where to cook, if you do a day trip you can take it with you. Use it at home before you leave and see how versatile it is.

No way, we have a large Weber at home and bought a baby to take in the van. The weber is more than a bbq as it is also our oven. Home or away 99% of our cooking is done in the Weber and wouldn't be it. Carry ours in the back of Jeep sitting on the folded trolley. Put Octopus straps around the two to keep it secure. Stay with it, David

When we designed our current van we chose no oven and no built-in BBQ, but we did build a special external hatch to store the baby q and ordered an external gas point. That is the perfect world, but if I had a built-in BBQ and/or oven, then I'd very reluctantly leave the baby q at home.

Just to be different.
WHY... You already have one built in.
All any of them do, is burn meat. to some degree...
We have a bells and whistle Barbie here. Only time it gets used is at Xmas with visitors here.
and they use it. Not me.
Sell it. and put money to Sat TV. A lot more useful.
Or another fishing rod\reel

An unused Baby Q? Perhaps there is your answer.
Might I suggest you try the barbecue in the van to see if it meets your needs. If it does, there is confirmation of your answer.
I doubt you will have a problem selling the Baby Q.
Perhaps, as a compromise if you are still unsure, take it with you and if you decide it is dead weight, sell it then. I doubt you will have any problem finding a buyer wherever you are on your journey.

Another thought. Is the space that you have for the built in barbie large enough to take the q, or is able to be modified to take the q? You already have the gas attachment, so you could have the best of both worlds.

thanks for the advice. i think we will try out the caravan BBQ and see if it suits our needs. The caravan also has a gas bayonet so no trouble to hook it up anyway. It seems many people are after them so they must be good.

Keep it... you won't regret it... and I'll bet when you want to use it, it fits easily.. We have a similar unit... BBQ/roaster/etc etc and use this all the time as it gives us the most options for cooking outside... we, like many, cook mostly outside.
You can sell it any time, easily, so first off, make sure after a few trips, what you really need.... then make a decision.
Ned.
PS.. when we changed from our Swan to a van.... we carried way too much "stuff"... but haven't missed half of it now... our policy now is... have we used the item in the last two weeks... yes (stays)... no (leave it out).
