Looks like a great little camp. Which beach is closest?

Hi Berny

Hawks Nest is the closest patrolled beach about 5 mins or you can drive through the bush tracks. when we were there a couple of guys went fishing of the beach and got a few salmon and watched the "junior white pointers feeding" on the schools of bait fish. Its a nice spot and living in sydney its only 3 hrs away including a stop at the end of the F3

Here is our rig:

Image

It is a 21 ft Jayco Sterling, with an ATM of around 2700 kgs when we are fully loaded for a long trip. Our LC100 handles this weight without drama. We have one 64 kWh solar panel feeding a 100 a/h AGM battery. This has proved more than enough to allow us to free camp for several days on the trot if we want.

"One 64kwh solar panel"...big panel...you surely mean 64w...and a "uni-solar" type...we have one of these and find it works very well , but later this year we are heading to Darwin and I feel it may not be enough ,that is with extra heat that we expect.. have been thinking of adding to it with a folding 80w mono panel...seem to be reasonably priced on ebay at the moment....anyone had experience with these ?

G'Day Erko & Rooster350,

Firstly, Rooster350 is quite right - it is indeed a 64 watt panel and it is the uni-solar type that works under partial shade. I obviously had a senior's moment (again) when I said 64kWh - or maybe it was wishful thinking! As I said in my previous post, the battery really only runs our lights and does this with ease. We have never had it go below about 98% of capacity. The van has now been rigged so that we can run our Engel Freezer off the battery as well, but we have yet to give this a real test for an extended period. If you are running a fridge or freezer when travelling up north you may well be wise to take a portable panel as planned. At worst, you'll have way more capacity than needed, which is an easier problem to manage than the reverse.

Secondly, while you made a pretty good guess Erko, the photo was not taken in the McDonnel Ranges. It was taken at a rest area located on the Luritja Road, which runs between the Lasseter Highway and Kings Canyon. The rest area, which is very pleasant, is about 45 kms north of where you turn off the Lasseter Highway. Thus we were a bit south of the McDonnel Ranges, although we have been there too and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Regards,

Eric

Hi All
Jane and I have a 1999 Roma Elegance 17'6" poptop pulled by a 2003 Pajero turbo diesel. We thought of upgrading to a 19'6" ensuite unit but have now decided to option up the Roma, without over capitilising.
Cheers

Here is a pic of our first rig. Toyota Sahara 100 series and a really nice family van - an Island Star - 20 foot. Picked her up from Adelaide (quite a long trip from Moranbah C.Qld with two littlies on board !) This piccy was taken heading into Banrock Station (to collect some essential supplies ;) ;) Had many wonderful trips with this combination and have just sold both to local people and ordered a 200 series (splurged on the diesel so fingers crossed its better on the fuel !!!) and ordered a Retreat Daydream (on a Magnetic chassis) with many thanks to those on this forum for all the little gems of advice about how to set up the new one. Due in April/May. Selling up and heading away this Winter to find greener pastures. Love seeing everyone's rigs and setups. Having two little ones I do regret not taking the time to pick up the camera more often and take photos of different camps we made. A personal resolution of mine is to change this with the new rig . Hope this picture works ! Keep them coming please !

Here we are on our shakedown trip in the new (to us) van. This is at Regans Ford just north of Perth, a lovely spot to stop and stretch the legs. We had a great couple of days and are planning for the next little escape. :D
The van looks small and the cruiser looks big, camera angles are funny. Its a 2006 Traveller Penthouse and it followed along behind us like a dream. Lovely van, very spoilt we are!! We stayed at Greenhead Caravan park, its a little place with mainly fishermen and permanents. It was quiet and hot, so we hungout at the beach a lot. When we werent Nanna napping in the van with the aircond on, that is.

TED,
Oh my god, the mileage was crappy 33 on LPG. Mind you that was at 100km into a head wind. Our cruiser is not the V8, its a 4.5 I think. Chris is going to play with the LPG settings (he is a installer, so all ok there) He thinks he needs to adjust the injection a bit. (So do I). I also think that 80/90kms with a tailwind would be a cheaper way to travel. Oh well it was never going to be a cheap exercise with that size van. We had a ball and know we will have many many more fun times. The van is great! I love it. We may upgrade to a diesel later (Much much later No money left now!! ) I hope with more trips our average will come down, the thing is- big van, big car will always equal big fuel usage. Its all about what you want hey. We could use the swag in the xtrail if mileage was a real concern. Whats your mileage like?? Weve already got our next two mini trips planned. I love having places to go and things to see!
